Swim with Dolphins in Mauritius
The unforgettable encounter of the west coast: wild dolphins in their natural habitat, at first light.
Every morning, pods of dolphins — spinner and bottlenose — come to rest in the calm waters of the west coast, between Tamarin and Rivière Noire. The outing sets off early (around 6-7am) to watch them and, in line with the rules, to slip into the water nearby. A magical moment that Le Mandala Moris arranges with local skippers who respect the animals.
How does the dolphin outing work ?
An early departure is the key: that's when the sea is calm and the dolphins are around.
- Departure around 6-7am from the west coast
- Approach by boat, then entering the water with mask and snorkel
- Whale watching possible in season (June to November)
- Often rounded off with a snorkeling stop and a view of Île aux Bénitiers
A responsible approach
We work with operators who respect Mauritian regulations: a limited number of boats, approach distances, no chasing. The aim is to observe without disturbing, so that the encounter is still possible tomorrow.
- Early departure (calm sea, dolphins present)
- Masks and snorkels provided
- Local skippers who follow the regulations
- Whales in season (June-November)
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to swim with dolphins ?
Expect around €35 to €60 per person on a shared outing (2-3h), and more on a private speed boat. The price depends on the duration and the stops included (snorkeling, Île aux Bénitiers).
Are we guaranteed to see dolphins ?
Dolphins are wild: their presence is very frequent in the morning but never 100% guaranteed. Setting off early maximises your chances. Most outings do encounter them.
What time do we leave ?
Very early: the meeting time is usually between 6 and 7am, because the dolphins visit the bay at daybreak and the sea is at its calmest then.
