Swimming with Dolphins : the Best Time

Season, timing and tips to maximise your chances of an encounter.

Swimming with dolphins is possible all year round in Mauritius, on the west coast. But two factors make all the difference: the time of day and the season.

The timing: early in the morning

The dolphins visit the bays of Tamarin and Rivière Noire at daybreak, when the sea is calm. Outings therefore leave around 6-7am. The earlier you set off, the better your chances of an encounter — and the water quality too.

The season

Dolphins are present all year round. The sea is at its kindest from October to April. Bonus: from June to November, the outing may also cross paths with whales.

Frequently asked questions

What time should you leave to see the dolphins ?

As early as possible: outings usually leave between 6 and 7am, because that's when the dolphins are near the coast and the sea is calm.

Should you book in advance ?

Yes, it's recommended, especially in high season: the quality morning outings (respectful and not overcrowded) fill up fast. We take care of the booking for you.
